ARISTOTLE UNIVERSITY  OF THESSALONIKI, GREECE

HONORS DR. THOMAS M. GRABER

 

 

In a special ceremony on December 5th 2005 the School of Dentistry of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece awarded to Dr. Thomas M. Graber, Evanston, Illinois the Honorary Doctorate Degree in Dentistry.

 

Faculty members of the Department of Orthodontics nominated Dr. Graber to receive this high academic distinction taking into consideration his significant contribution to Dentistry, life long dedication to Orthodontics, academic cooperation with department’s staff and Greek orthodontists.  

Dr. Graber is one of the legendary figures in orthodontics serving our specialty more than six decades and significantly influencing its evolution and progress. “I cannot believe so much happened in my lifetime and how lucky I have been to see it and still to be a part of it.” recollected Dr. Graber.

During the ceremony Vice-Rector E. Douka - Kabitoglou and Dean A. E. Athanasiou highlighted Dr. Graber’s important aspects of his academic, research and clinical career.

 

While addressing Dr. Graber, Dean Athanasiou said:

“Your presence here today gives us appreciation, pride, honor and joy.

We feel appreciation for your paramount contribution and life-long dedication to orthodontics. Where our specialty stands today is because pioneers and visionaries like you, through their work, research and publications enriched our knowledge.

We feel pride because this ceremony creates a formal bond between you and our university and makes you one of us.

We feel honor because of our scientific cooperation with you in different projects and with various capacities. 

We feel joy because next to us sits a friend of Greece, who has assisted, supported and encouraged many colleagues from this country in their international scientific activities, who has contributed to many continuing educational activities of the Greek Orthodontic Community, and who serves for our young generation of orthodontists as the ideal role model.”

 

Following the presentation of the honorary doctorate degree Dr. Graber’s presented the lecture “Orthodontists are applied biologists”, which was very much appreciated by the audience.  

 

The ceremony was attended by dental faculty and students of the university, many orthodontists from all over Greece, and representatives of the dental association and orthodontic scientific and professional groups of the country.
